Event Details

Music has always played a central part in the life of St Martin-in-the-Fields. The church has had an organ since before 1500; Handel and possibly even Mozart both played on the Schreider organ of 1727; and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields was founded here in the 1950s by Sir Neville Marriner and John Churchill, then Master of the Music.

The choir is the church's flagship ensemble - a voluntary choir committed to a professional standard of music making. Its annual programme is comparable to that of a cathedral choir, with church services each Sunday and several concerts per year (both as part of St Martin's renowned concert series and at external venues of note) as well as regular broadcasts on BBC Radio and Television. The choir have recently recorded a CD, ‘Christmas at St Martin-in-the-Fields’ and go on tour to Ireland in May 2010.

This concert is generously sponsored by Swan Foundry in support of St Mary's Organ Fund.
